What Is Reverse by Aerolase?
Reverse is a two-step laser rejuvenation treatment designed to address both the dermis—the deeper structural layer of the skin—and the epidermis, the visible surface layer.
First, we use the Neo Elite 1064nm Nd: YAG laser to deliver energy deeper into the skin. Then, we follow with the Era Elite 2940nm Er: YAG laser to precisely resurface the skin's outer layers.
Why combine them?
Because aging doesn't happen in just one layer of the skin. Years of sun exposure, environmental damage, and the natural aging process can affect pigmentation, blood vessels, collagen, elasticity, and the skin's surface texture simultaneously. Treating only one layer can certainly create improvement. Treating both allows us to approach skin rejuvenation much more comprehensively.
Step One: Neo Works From Within
We begin Reverse with the Aerolase Neo Elite.
Neo's 1064nm wavelength penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, where it can address several underlying contributors to visible aging.

The laser also creates controlled heating within the dermis, helping stimulate the skin's natural collagen remodeling process. The Era Elite 2940nm Er: YAG laser precisely resurfaces the epidermis, removing controlled amounts of damaged surface skin and encouraging fresh, healthier-looking skin to emerge.

What Is the Downtime With Reverse?
Because the Neo portion of the treatment is exceptionally gentle, most of the visible recovery following Reverse comes from the Era resurfacing portion. The amount of downtime depends on how aggressively we choose to resurface. For the treatments we perform at Luma MD, we generally recommend planning for approximately 5–7 days of visible recovery.
During that time, your skin may appear red, feel warm or tight, and then become dry, bronzed, or flaky as the damaged surface skin begins to shed. Your skin may continue to look slightly pink even after the peeling has resolved. We'll give you detailed post-treatment instructions and products to keep your skin comfortable and protected while it heals.
And this is one treatment where following your post-care instructions really matters: hydrate, protect, and wear your sunscreen. And resist the temptation to pick!
When Will I See Results?
One of the things we love about Reverse is that there are really two stages of improvement.
First comes the reveal. As the Era-treated skin heals and sheds, you'll begin to see fresher, smoother, and brighter-looking skin. Then comes the remodeling. The collagen response initiated within the deeper layers continues after your appointment. Over the following weeks and months, you may notice continued improvement in firmness, texture, and overall skin quality. It's not simply about looking better the week after your treatment.

How Many Reverse Treatments Will I Need?
That depends entirely on your skin. Some patients may choose Reverse as a powerful seasonal rejuvenation treatment. Others with more significant sun damage, pigmentation, acne scarring, or textural concerns may benefit from a series. Your treatment plan may also include other technologies or medical-grade skincare depending on what we're trying to accomplish. At Luma MD, we don't believe every patient needs the same package of three treatments simply because that's what a protocol says. We'd rather look at your skin, listen to what bothers you, understand how much downtime you're willing to have, and build the plan from there.
Is Reverse the Same as a CO2 Laser?
No.
Reverse combines two different Aerolase wavelengths and technologies rather than relying on a single CO2 laser. The Era Elite is an Er: YAG ablative resurfacing laser, while Neo is a non-ablative Nd: YAG laser that works deeper within the skin.
This gives us the ability to address both deeper dermal concerns and surface-level damage while precisely controlling the amount of resurfacing we perform. For many of our patients, that's an attractive balance between meaningful rejuvenation and manageable recovery.
Can We Treat the Neck and Chest Too?
Absolutely—and for many patients, we think about these areas from the beginning.
One of the biggest mistakes in facial rejuvenation is treating the face beautifully while ignoring the neck and décolleté. Sun exposure doesn't stop at the jawline. Depending on your skin and treatment plan, we can extend treatment to the neck and chest or discuss other options for creating a more seamless result. We can also talk about smaller areas that often reveal age, such as the lips and hands. The goal is never to treat more simply for the sake of treating more. It's to create a result that looks balanced and natural.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Reverse?
Reverse can be customized for a wide range of skin concerns and skin types, but laser resurfacing still requires thoughtful patient selection. Your medical history, medications, skin type, pigmentation, recent sun exposure, previous treatments, and healing history all matter.
